Iqbal Turk was an excellent student at Petaro and
after. He stood first in the entire Hyderabad
Board in the Intermediate examinations, and was
awarded the Gold Medal for this achievement. Cadet
College Petaro also gave the Principal's Gold
Medal for the Best Academic Career at the college.
After leaving Petaro, he graduated as a Civil
Engineer from NED Engineering College, Karachi,
and obtained his Masters in Structural Engineering
from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok,
Thailand. He also did courses in Port and Harbour
Engineering from Yokohama, Japan in 1975-1976.
He is a Life Member of the Institute of Engineers
Pakistan and the Pakistan Engineering Council. He
is also a Member of the Academic Council of Mehran
University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro.
He started his career as an Assistant Professor in
the Civil Engineering Department at Sindh
University Engineering College from 1973-1975. He
then got a job with the Port Qasim Authority and
his last assignment there was as a Deputy General
Manager. In 1989, he was appointed the Managing
Director of the Korangi Fisheries Harbour
Authority - a position he held until his
retirement in 2008.
Since his retirement, he is busy enjoying life and
giving utmost time to his family and home affairs
- something which keeps him extremely busy.
He is one of the founding members of the Petarian
Association, and served its
Managing Committee
several times during its early years. He is
ever-present at most of the Petarian functions.
He is the elder brother of another Petarian -
Aftab Ahmed Turk, 828/Latif.
