Vice Adm(R) Farooq Rashid

Farooq Rashid, kit no. 236/Jinnah House joined Cadet College Petaro in 1961 and left the college in 1966 after completing his Intermediate.

He was born on 19 December 1947 and got married to Mrs. Talat on 15 July 1989. They have two children - Azfar Bilal and Saad Ibrahim.

During his last year at Petaro, Farooq Rashid was the Captain of the College Basketball team. He was good at sports.

After leaving Petaro, Farooq Rashid joined Pakistan Navy, and was commissioned in 1968.

During his naval career, he has served and commanded various PN ships including PNS/M Hangor (1982-1984), PNS/M Hurmat (1984-1986), Commander Operations and Sea Training to Commander Submarines (1989-1991), PNS Khaibar (1991-1992). He was also the Naval and Air Attaché at Tehran (1992-1995). Upon his return from Iran, he was appointed the Commander of the Pakistan Navy Submarine Force.

He became a Vice Admiral and was the Commander Logistics (COMLOG) and the Vice Chief of Naval Staff.

He was awarded the Sitara-e-Basalat.

Upon his retirement in 2005 from Pakistan Navy, he was appointed Rector of Bahria University, Islamabad, which he served until 2008.

Currently he heads the Kashmir Education Foundation as its CEO.

His wife, Mrs. Talat is a recognized educationist and a writer. Her books have had national acclaim.

All of this three brothers are Petarians - Javed Rashid (150/L), Asif Rashid (7183/A) and Amir Rashid (7419/A).

He presently has his home at Banigala near Islamabad.
