Khalid Aslam was on the best students in class,
and was always amongst the top three in studies
alongside S.P. Shahid
and Mirza Jawaid Baig.
He got 2nd position amongst his classmates in the
Matric examinations.
During his final year at Petaro, he was appointed
the Senior Section Leader of Liaquat House.
He also has the honour of being the first Petarian
to be in charge of the first 7th class that was
ever admitted to the college during the year
1966-1967. The 7th class cadets were housed in the
Liaquat House Ante Room. Amongst these fresh 7th
class boys was a cadet called
Asif Ali Zardari,
who later on became the President of Pakistan.
He was the Editor of the English Section of The
Cadet magazine during 1966 and 1967. He was
Captain of the Liaquat House Quiz & Spelling Bee
team in 1966-67.
After leaving Petaro, Khalid Aslam graduated from
UET, Lahore as an Electrical Engineer in 1972, and
was commissioned as an officer in the EME Corps of
the Pakistan Army that same year. In later years,
he went on for higher education, and completed the
Technical Staff College certification from the
Royal Military College of Science, Shrivenham, UK
in 1985. He also qualified from the Staff College
Quetta in 1986.

Upon completion of his National Defence Course in

(NDC) as Directing Staff - a rare privilege for an
EME officer. During this period he had the
singular honour of conducting the first ever
National Security Workshop for Training of
Civilian Leadership comprising senators,
parliamentarians, government and civil bureaucracy
at the NDC (now NDU), Islamabad.
He retired from the Pakistan Army as a brigadier.
Brig.(R) Khalid Aslam is a thorough gentleman, and
a pleasure to be with. He is a thorough
professional who left his mark wherever he went.
He has always participated in Petarian activities
in the area, and went all the way to Petaro for
the Golden Jubilee celebrations as well. It is my
honour to have known Brig.(R) Khalid Aslam as a
friend and as my senior. |
