Kamal Alvi was known for theatrics at Petaro. He
participated in a number of plays and dramas. He
played the part of Brutus in the drama on Julius
Caesar. His performance was so good that he was
subsequently known as "Brutus" for the rest of his
life.
After passing out from Petaro, he joined the
Pakistan Army in the 39th Long Course in 1966 and
was commissioned in the 28 Baloch Regiment.
He participated in the 1971 War against India in
the Poonch Sector (Kashmir), and was seriously
wounded. He remained hospitalized for a long
period (1971-74) at CMH Rawalpindi, but could not
regain the use of his right arm which had been
damaged due to gunshots.
He was then posted to the Baloch Regiment Centre
at Abbotabad from 1974-1979.
Kamal Alvi was recognized as a very good officer.
However, he could not rise above the rank of a
Brigadier due to his physical disability. He
remained posted for the rest of his career at the
MS Branch since 1979. His last posting was as the
Deputy Military Secretary.
After his retirement from the Army, he joined the
NAB as the Director for Human Resources. However,
due to failing health conditions, he left that
job. He was suffering from cancer. He died of this
illness on 8 June 2008.
Kamal Alvi was a respected member of the Petarian
community in Rawalpindi / Islamabad area. He was
at the forefront of activities always.
