Khalid was my batch mate and my house mate - and
my room mate for three years. We were in the same
dorm in 9th and 10th class, and in the "Sheesh
Mahal" of Latif House in 11th class.
He was famous for his acumen in sports. He was
into almost every sport that you can think of, and
was declared the best all-rounded
Sportsman of the Year at
Petaro in 1969.
He was a member of the
Famous Forties of in 1966, 1967 and 1968. Khalid Jamil
and Abid Saleem
(589/LF) were the only two Petarians ever who
participated in all the three winning ICCST
competitions. And both were Latifians.
Khalid became the Captain of the College
Athletics team in
1968-1969. He was also a member of the College
Hockey, Cricket, Football and Basketball teams as
well.
He was the fastest runner and record holder in the
100m race at CCP as well as at
ICCST.
His sports activities continued after Petaro as
well. He was selected for the Pakistan Team Hockey
in 1971 and national Athletics team in 1970. That
year, he was declared the fastest runner
and record holder in the 100m race in the entire
southern zone of West Pakistan. He was a part of
the all Pakistan national 4x100m relay team. He
was nominated to be a member of the Pakistan
Hockey Team touring Kenya in last 1971. However,
the tour was cancelled due to the 1971 War.
Truly, the college has produced few all-rounded
sportsmen like Khalid Jamil Kirmani.
After Petaro, Khalid joined Pakistan Navy and was
given his commission in 1972. He qualified in all
the basic courses at the Pakistan Naval Academy.
During his service with the Pakistan Navy, he
served on board PNS Gilgit, PNS Rajshahi, PNS
Balochistan and PNS Badar. He also served as the
Administrator of PNS Rahnuma, and was posted at
the Training Center of Oman Navy at Sur. In
addition, he served in different administrative
positions as well.
Khalid retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant
Commander in 1995. Since then, he has been busy
working with different educational institutions.
He was the Principal of BFC Jacobabad, and
Principal of Aisha Bawany Academy in Karachi. He
also served Bahria Educational Services as Manager
Training (South).
Khalid loves to tell everyone that his nickname is
"Luddoo". In fact, he is widely known as Khalid
Jamil "Luddoo". I suppose it is because of his
sweet personality, which will live with him
forever.
Khalid still lives in Karachi. It is an honour and a
pleasure to have been the room mate, batch mate and
house mate of Khalid Jamil "Luddoo".
