Sajid Ali Hashmi, kit no. 6857/Latif House joined Cadet College Petaro in 1968 in 8th class and left the college in 1973 after completing his Intermediate.

He was born on 2 January 1956, and was married to Mrs. Lubna on 23 September 1983. They have 3 children - Umair, Saad and Maeda

Sajid has held a very special position in my heart. When he joined the college in 1968, I was in my final year. We were in the same house and he (along with all the 8th class boys) were such a wonderful sight. I can see them in the back of my inner eye even to this day.

Over all these years, Sajid has kept up that wonderful feeling for me and I have kept the same for him. We have mutual respect and love between each other, and he always shows the utmost respect with such humbleness that I it virtually drives my ego away.

Sajid was a studious and hardworking student at Petaro. He would normally be amongst the top ten students in the class. He was 3rd in his class in the XI class finals.

He was also considered to be a good sportsman. He was an excellent athlete - a middle and long distance runner. He represented the college in the Inter-Collegiate Athletics Championship. He bettered the 1500m race record with a time of 4 minutes and 42 seconds in Inter-House Athletics Championship in 1973. He was also a member of the House Hockey team.

He was also good with his writing skills, and was appointed the Assistant Editor (Urdu Section) of The Cadet magazine in 1973. he was also appointed the Editor of the Latif House Wallpaper in 12th class.

Sajid joined Pakistan Navy soon after passing out from Petaro in 1973 and was commissioned as an officer in 1976. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) from NED College in 1973. Later on, he also completed his MS in Electrical Engineering from NED University in 1992, and an MBA in Finance from Bahria University, Islamabad in 2006.

During his tenure with the Pakistan Navy, he served on board various navy ships and submarines as Electrical/Electronics Engineer. He was responsible for the maintenance and repair of electronic and acoustic sensors, communication equipment, navigational aids, weapon systems, and power generation and distribution systems.

He completed his staff course from Joint Services Staff College, Chaklala, Rawalpindi in 1995, when we was awarded an M.Sc. degree in Joint War Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University.

His held several staff appointments at the Naval Headquarters including the posts of Deputy Director Ships Maintenance and Repairs, Deputy Director Naval Weapons and Equipment, Deputy Naval Secretary, Director General Inspection and Technical Development, and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Technical).

He also served as Fleet Weapon Engineer to Commander Pakistan Fleet, and as Commanding Officer Naval Precision and Electronics Complex at Karachi.

At present he is serving as Director Munitions Production (Navy) at the Ministry of Defence Production in Rawalpindi.

It has been an honour for me to have known Sajid for these past over 4 decades. He is a very special Petarian brother and an epitome of humbleness.
