Wasif did his earlier schooling from Cantt Public
School in Karachi before going to Petaro in 1974.
After leaving Petaro, Wasif joined NED Engineering College,
and graduated as a Mechanical Engineer in 1985. He then went for
graduate studies in USA and obtained admission in the Mechanical
Engineering program at the University of Texas at Arlington in the Fall
of 1986. He got his Masters degree from there.
Soon thereafter, he started his professional
career working in the commercial nuclear power
industry as an engineer for the next 12 years.
In 1999, Wasif started his own business under the
name of Desi Services, Inc out of Dallas, Texas.
The company entered into two areas - dry cleaning
business and web development business. It
developed two major portals for south asian
interests called
www.desiconnection.com and
www.apnabusiness.com. A third one is
www.ForkLiftTech.com which provides forklift certifications
to its clients. The company also has an office in Karachi
since 2002 with 2-3 full time engineers. Most of the
engineering and website work is done by the Pakistan
office.
Wasif is a die-hard Petarian. He continues to be
at the center of Petarian activities in North
America and has played a very important role in
PANA. Since 2007, he has
been one of the co-moderators of the "Petarians"
Yahoogroup (the largest grouping of Petarians on
the net), which has played a very important role
in keeping the Petarians together.
He is also a very talented person. His writing
skills are superb, and he has been writing a
number of articles on the net. For example, his report on the
7th PANA Reunion and his
travels to Washington DC are worth reading. He is
also an exceptional photographer. He loves to
photograph nature and events, and goes into the
finer details. He is able to capture his thoughts
very beautifully through graphical dimensions and
photography. He also loves to play music as well.
Wasif is a pride of the Petarians.
