During his days at Petaro, Abdul Wahid Soomro was
known to be a sportsman. He was a member of the
College Riding Team, College Swimming Team,
College Shooting Team, College Sailing Team and
College Volleyball Team.
After leaving Petaro in 1980, he joined Liaquat
Medical College, Jamshoro and graduated with an
MBBS degree in 1990. Dr. Soomro chose to remain in
his ancestral profession of Zamindar and
Agriculture. However with the return of civilian
governments in the 1990s, he entered into the
political arena in the footsteps of his father.
Dr. Soomro was elected to the Sindh Provincial
Assembly in the 1990s from the PPP ticket, and was
given the portfolio of Provincial Health Minister.
He lost the 2002 National Assembly elections by a
small margin, but was elected in the 2008
elections from the PPPP ticket to the National
Assembly from Thatta (NA-237) with a whopping
margin against his opponent. He is now also a
member of the National Assembly Standing
Committees on Health and Culture.
