Khayyam Durrani joined Pakistan Air Force in the
Education Branch right after leaving Petaro, and
retired from service as an Air Commodore. He is
the first Petarian to become an Air Commodore.
He served in various positions including Officer
Commanding of the College of Education, GSO-II in
the Inter Services Intelligence, Staff Officer I
to the Chief of Air Staff, Director of Education
at Rear Headquarters Peshawar, Principal PAF
Degree College Faisal, and Assistant Chief of the
Air Staff (Education). He was awarded the
Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military) for his performance.
He obtained a B.A.(Hons) degree and then went on
to get and M.A. English degree. He also qualified
for a B.Sc.(War Studies) degree and is a Fellow of
the Air War College (FAWC). He attended many
different professional courses as well.
As a professional educator, he got his first
opportunity at Cadet College Petaro as
teacher of English in
1968-1969. Later on he was Instructor of English
at PAF Academy Risalpur, as a PAF Liaison Officer
at Cadet College Petaro (when he also taught
English language and orientation courses there),
and Head of English Department and Training Staff
Officer at the Royal Technical Studies Institute
of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) at Dhahran. During
his assignment in Saudi Arabia, he was also
responsible for supervision and evaluation of over
150 British instructors. He then became the
Directing Staff Research at PAF Air War College.
Later on he was appointed as Instructor of
Business English at Institute of Cost and
Management Accountants.
From 2001 to 2004, Air Comm.(R) Khayyam Durrani
held the position of Principal of Army Public
School "O" Levels at Saddar, Karachi. He was also
the Executive Director of Indus Valley School of
Art and Architecture.
At present, he is working as DS Research at Air
War College Faisal in Karachi.
He has been on the Board of Governors of Cadet
College Petaro as the representative of PAF during
some years. He has been an active member of the
Petarian Association, and has been the
General Secretary
of the organization during 1997-1998.
He has published many articles in magazines and
newspapers and has appeared on discussion programs
on TV.
