Jamshed Akhtar - 1969

By Kazi Zulkader Siddiqui, 671/Latif

Jamshed Akhtar, kit no. 992/Iqbal House joined Cadet College Petaro in 1967 and left the college in 1969 after completing his Intermediate.

He was born on 19 June 1952 and got married to Mrs. Shahida on 30 March 1978. They had four children.

Jamshed died on 6 June 1996 of Leukemia at Rawalpindi.

Jamshed was one of the large contingent of new cadets that joined in 11th class in 1967 when Iqbal House was created. He was generally a very quiet person, and very likeable. He belonged to my batch.

After leaving Petaro, he joined Pakistan Army and spent his entire career there. He retired as a major. After his retirement, he worked with the Army Welfare Trust until his very last days.

Upon my return to Pakistan in 1995, he was one of the few batch mates that I called over the phone. He did not talk much, and said that we will meet one day. Little did I know that he was already suffering from Leukemia, and he did not volunteer that information. We never met again.

A few days after he died, I called his home again hoping to invite him for a dinner. His son answered and told me that his father had passed away. I cannot express the level of shock I felt. The man had taken it so bravely, and did not try to share his pains with others.

May Allah grant him the best place in Jannatul Firdaus.
