Iqbal Jumani
was a well liked cadet during his days at Petaro,
and he was the Captain of the Latif House Junior
Cricket Team.
In 1966, upon the death of his father, Iqbal
Jumani had to leave Petaro prematurely and take care of family
lands and family affairs at such a young age.
Thus, during the next 5 years, most of his time
was spent on family lands while he also pursued
his studies privately. He obtained his M.A. in
Political Science from the Sindh University in
1971.
In the same year, he decided to enter into
professional life, and sat for the CSS
examination. He was selected as a part of the last
batch of CSS officers of united Pakistan prior to
the 1971 war with India.
Iqbal Jumani
was inducted into the Income Tax department in
1972 and served as Assistant Commissioner /
Taxation Officer until 1983 at different stations.
In 1984, he was promoted to the rank of Additional
Commissioner Income Tax and served at Karachi,
Hyderabad and Multan until 1994.
During this same period, he
obtained a
USAID scholarship for the International Tax
Program at the Harvard Law School in 1986-1987.
After his return from USA, he was posted to the
Ministry of Defence Production as Deputy Secretary
in 1988-1989.
In 1994, he was promoted to the position of
Commisisoner Income Tax. He served in this
position until 2006 at Karachi and Hyderabad.
During this period, he was also posted to
Islamabad at the CBR Head Office during 2001-2002
as Chief of Direct Tax Administration.
His next
promotion was in 2007 when he was posted as the
Director General of Regional Tax Office at
Hyderabad. In the following year, i.e. 2008, he
was appointed Member of Income Tax Appellate
Tribunal, which was a Grade 21 appointment.

finally retired from government service in 2009
upon reaching retirement age.
Since his
retirement, he has been leading a private life and
is involved as a Consultant with Sindh Social Sector
Support Services, an NGO established by
Mr. Abdullah Khadim
Hussain. The objective of this organization is
to motivate and provide encouragement to poor
children in the Lyari area to acquire education,
primarily those children whose parents are
afflicted with the drugs problem. Iqbal Jumani was
instrumental in getting the exemption for this
organization in the year 2000 while he was still
in government service. In the past, he has
been involved with other charitable work as well,
especially in supporting a school at Sohrab Goth
in 1994.
He is fluent in
Urdu, English, Sindhi and Punjabi languages.
Iqbal Jumani
has been a very active member of the Petarian
Association for over 2 decades. He has been a
member of the Managing Committee of TPA since 1990
and was elected the President of the Petarian
Association for a two year period in 1998. He is a
well respected member among the senior Petarians.
In his latest capacity, he is the first Convenor
of the Petarian Association's Election Committee
under the new set up to convert the organization
into a global body.
