Rashid Abro joined the Merchant Navy soon
after leaving Petaro. He became a Master Captain in the
Merchant Navy at the culmination of his career
with the shipping lines. He worked with PNSC and
other foreign shipping lines until 1984. In later
years, he also acquired an MA degree in Economics
from Sindh University.
In 1984, he transferred to PNSC shore
establishment and worked as Port Captain and
Chartering Manager until 1992. That year, he
resigned from PNSC and joined as Commercial
Director with a private shipping firm.
Subsequently, he decided to enter into his own
business in line with his extensive experience in
shipping. He owns a couple of companies, and is
the CEO of Pacific Chartering and Trading (Pvt)
Ltd. in Karachi.
On the professional level, he is a member of the
Chartered Institute of Transport, England, and the
Nautical Institute, UK. He has been a Life Member
and a Member of the Executive Committee of FPCCI
since the year 2000. During the year 2009-2010, he
was elected as the Chairman of the Standing
Committee on Ports and Shipping of the FPCCI as
well.
He a Life Member of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce
and Industry, the Vice Chairman of the Pakistan
Ship Agents Association, and Member of the Public
Private Board of Govt. of Sindh (2009). He has
been a Member of the Executive Committee of the
Master Mariners Society of Pakistan in 1998, and a member of the Chittagong
District Hockey Team.
Rashid Abro has been a very keen member of
the Petarian Association. He was chosen as the
President of the Association twice, during
2007-2008 and then re-elected in 2009-2010. He has
been at the forefront of activities throughout. In
the past, he has held different positions in the
Managing Committee of the Association as well.
During his tenure, the Petarian Association has
been going through a transformation to make it
into a global body of all Petarians.
He has been a source of unity amongst Petarians
and we wish him luck in providing strong
leadership in the Association.
