Zafar had his early education at St. Patrick's
High School, Karachi from 1962-1968 before joining
Cadet College Petaro.
He did well at
Petaro and ended up being the JUO (Junior Under
Officer) of Ayub
House during 12 Class. He was also the Captain
of the College
Athletics
team, Member of College Gymnastics team, and the
captain of Ayub House Athletics and member of
house Hockey team.
He represented Hyderabad Board in Athletics in
Inter Board Athletics competition in Peshawar, and
represented the teams in Karachi and Mirpurkhas.
He created records in athletics in Inter House
competitions.
In other activities,
he was a member of the College Dramatics Club.
Zafar joined
Pakistan Army soon after passing out from Petaro
in 1973 and was commissioned as an officer in 1976
in thE Armoured Corps. He graduated from Pakistan
Military Academy. During his army career, he
completed all related courses of the Armoured
Corps and the Logistics Staff Course.
He was posted at
different places while he was in the army. He had
10 years of regimental service at Kharian, Multan
and Bahawalpur. He served as Grade 3 Staff Officer
in School of Armour, was seconded to Saudi Arabia
in Armoured Brigade, was Admin Officer in AC
Centre, was Grade 2 Staff Officer in an
Independent Armoured Brigade and SP HQ of Pakistan
Army UN Contingent in Bosnia and Eastern Slavonia.
He took early retirement from the Army as a Major
in 1997.
After retiring from
the army, he worked initially with Lever Brothers
as Depot Manager from 1999-2001. He was then
Manager Visibility at Walls, Karachi for a year
between 2001-2002 before working with DHA, Lahore
as Assistant Director Amenities between 2002-2005.
After this, he joined Askari Guards Regional
Office Karachi and was AWT Manager Operations for
Sind and Baluchistan. At present, he is
self-employed.
