Aziz Anwar was a superb swimmer, and he was the
Captain of the College
Swimming team at Petaro. He was also an
excellent gymnast, and was awarded several prizes
and awards in swimming and gymnastics.
After leaving Petaro, he opted to go into the
field of marketing, and acquired his MBA degree
from IBA, Karachi.
He then joined
Caltex, and over short period of time he was
promoted to the position of a
regional manager. At the time of his marriage to Haniya, he was the Regional Manager at Sukkur.
His wife Haniya
happens to be my niece. I remember having attended
their wedding in Karachi. It was a very important
affair in our family, since Haniya is the eldest
in her generation in the family at large (out of
over 180 cousins). That is when I found out that
he was a Petarian.
In the family, he
was known as "Azmi". Everyone called him by that
name.
Azmi and Haniya were
a very happy couple. Soon after the wedding they
moved to Sukkur in line with his job requirements.
A year later, they were blessed with a son Ammar.
Ammar was barely 2
months old when Azmi had the massive heart attack.
He was only 32, and seemed to be in such good
health. And before Haniya could even understand
what was happening, he was gone.
She was all alone in
Sukkur with no relatives, except for her 2 month
old baby. Overnight, the company employees
assisted in arranging for road transportation to
carry his body back to Karachi. In this traumatic
condition, Haniya and the baby accompanied Azmi's
body in the same vehicle - a pick up van.
Despite the passage
of all these years, the family at large has not
forgotten this sad day when Azmi left this world.
And Haniya took it in stride, devoting her life to
bringing up her son Ammar, who is now a young man,
studying in university.
May Allah grant Azmi
(Aziz Anwar Siddiqui) the choicest place in
Jannatul Firdaus. |
