Syed Zulqadar Ahmed, 895/Qasim

Syed Zulqadar Ahmed - 2011

By Kazi Zulkader Siddiqui, 671/Latif

Syed Zulqadar Ahmed (my namesake), kit no. 895/Qasim House joined Cadet College Petaro in 1967 in 8th Class and left the college in 1971 when he was in 12th class.

He was born on 13 December 1954 and got married to Mrs. Kausar on 26 July 1983. They have 3 children - Sadaf, Zain Umair and Sidra.

It is not common to find the name Zulqadar, and it came as a surprise to me that there were two of us at Petaro - and we were also contemporaries. At times, Petarians have confused Zulqadar Ahmed with me.  So now you all know that Kazi Zulkader (kit no. 671) and Zulqadar Ahmed (kit no. 895) are 2 different people.

His initial education until class 7 was at Cox Private School, PECHS, Karachi. He then joined St. Patrick's High School, Karachi from where he completed his 8th class. But then when he decided to join Petaro, he was admitted again to 8th class and thus lost one year.

At Petaro, he was an all rounder - good at academics and sports. He was always a first division student in Matric and Intermediate. During his final year at Petaro, he was the captain of the College Swimming team. He was also member of the Qasim House cricket, hockey and football teams.

Zulqadar was quite an activist at Petaro. During the student disturbances following the end of tenure of Cdr. Firoz Shah as principal of Petaro, Zulqadar was one of the cadets who was part of the processions to Hyderabad and thus became a victim of being expelled from the college - just before the final internediate examinations. He then sat for Intermediate exams from Hyderabad centre and got a first division.

Later on he did courses in management and business management at IBA, Karachi.

Zulqadar joined Pakistan Army in 1973 in the 51st course and was commissioned as an officer in the infantry division in 1975. He then switched to Army Aviation where he served for 6 years and then reverted back to infantry. After serving for 13 years, he retired in 1989 as a Major. During this period, he was mostly in administration, security and man management, logistics and movement of troops. He also gained experience of 1000 hours of flying during his Army Aviation years, underwater diving courses and paratrooping.

After leaving the army, he joined JSP Courier Company as Deputy Managing Director from 1989 to 1992. That is when he decided to go into business on his own and set up his company under the name of Oramco Agencies Pakistan. This company specializes in Clearing and Forwarding of goods.  He is the sole proprietor of the company ever since.

His company has been working as Customs Clearing Agent for large corporations like BP Petroleum, Engro, FFC, FJFC, MGL, Shell, PARCO, PPL, China Petroleum, and Turner International.

Zulqadar also holds a commercial pilot license.
