After leaving
Petaro, Altaf moved to Sukkur and graduated with a
B.A. and LL.B. degree in 1976. He then set up his
law practice in Sukkur the same year.
After nearly 11
years of practice in Sukkur, he moved to Karachi
and remained settled there with his family until
his death.
He had set up his
law practice in Karachi initially with the City
Courts. He then moved on very soon to become an
advocate of the Sindh High Court.
Altaf's elder sister
was married to the late
Professor M.S. Mangi. Three of his nephews are
Petarians, namely Khawar Saleem Mangi 7212/Qasim
(son of Mr. MS Mangi), Tahir Saleem Mangi
8307/Jinnah (son of Mr. MS Mangi) and Sohail
Akhtar Mangi 8198/Jinnah (son of another sister).
