Ashfaque was Senior
Section Leader of Iqbal House. He was member of the
College Athletics Team and 5000 meter
Intercollegiate champion. He got a distinction in
the Matric exams.
Ashfaque joined
Pakistan Air Force immediately after leaving
Petaro in Sept 1975.
He obtained a B.Sc.
in Aero Science from PAF College Sargodha in 1979
and a B.Sc. in International Relations from Air
War College Karachi in 1993. He also obtained an
M.Sc. in Defence and Strategic Studies from Air
War College Karachi in 1998, and an M.Sc. in War
Studies from National Defence University (NDU),
Islamabad in 2007. He also holds an MBA.
He has been a
fighter pilot in addition to flying trainer
aircraft. He has flown F-6, F-7 and F-16 aircraft.
He was also an instructor pilot on F-16s and a
instructor in the Combat Commanders' School.
His field
assignments included command of a fighter
squadron. He was also base commander of PAF Base
Mushaf, Sargodha. He held various assignments at
the Air Headquarters and was also the Air Attache
at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Ashfaque was
promoted to the rank of Air Vice Marshal on 27
May 2011, and became the first Petarian to attain
a 2 star rank in the Pakistan Air Force.
He was awarded the
Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz
(Military).
At present, he is
posted as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Plans) at
Air Headquarters, Islamabad at the rank of Air
Vice Marshal.
