Khawar
got his commission as an officer of the Pakistan
Navy in 1977 in the Operations Branch.
He is a graduate of
Armed Forces War Course from Islamabad and
obtained an MSc in Strategic Studies from NDU in
2001. He also completed the Defence Strategic
Studies Course from Australia in 2004. In
addition he holds an MBA degree from IBA Karachi,
and an MA from Deakin University, Australia.
Rear Admiral Khawar
has rich experience of various command and staff
appointments. His staff assignments included
Commander Air at PNS Mehran Karachi from
2001-2003, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Plans)
at NHQ from 2004-2005, Director Naval Aviation at
NHQ from 1999-2000, Naval Secretary at NHQ from
2005-2006, and Commander Naval Aviation at Karachi
from 2006-2007. He was posted as Director
General Joint Warfare and Training at the Joint
Staff HQ at Rawalpindi from 2008-2010. He also headed the
acquisition mission for P3C aircraft in at South
Carolina, USA in 2008.
Rear Admiral Khawar served as
the COMKAR from January 2010 to October 2011. As a result, he became the
Chairman of the Board of
Governors of Cadet College Petaro. It is
indeed an honour to be the head of the BOG of the
same institution where he had studied nearly 4
decades earlier.
When floods
inundated many of the areas of Pakistan in 2010,
Rear Admiral Khawar (as COMKAR) undertook relief
efforts under the Pakistan Navy in areas around
Petaro. Relief camps were established at Aliabad,
Benazirabad Goth, Petaro Goth, Goth Bego Khan and
Goth Chakar Khan in August 2010 accommodating 5680
IDPs with all basic amenities (such as school,
community centre, medical centre, portable
bathrooms/toilets) provided. A model village was
constructed at Mocho Goth at Aliabad near Petaro
with 87 homes, school, dispensary, mosque,
filtration plant and industrial home.
Currently, he is
serving the Navy as the Deputy Chief of Naval
Staff for Training.
