Ammad was the only brother of 3 sisters. His
father had expired and he used to live with his
mother Tahira.
Ammad joined Bhoja Airlines in February 2012. He
was the Head of the Cabin Crew aboard the
ill-fated Bhoja Airlines flight number 213 from
Karachi to Islamabad on the evening of 20 April
2012. This was a maiden evening flight of the
airline to Islamabad after a break of 12 years
since it had been grounded in the year 2000.
The aircraft was a 28 year old Boeing 737-236.
After being declared fit for airworthiness by CAA,
the plane took off from Karachi at 5:00pm and was
scheduled to land at Islamabad at 6:50pm. As it
approached the runway to land, the plane crashed
at Koral - nearly 6km short of the runway at
6:40pm
All of the 127 people (including 6 crew members)
on board the aircraft perished. There were no
survivors.
Also on board the plane was Ammad's mother Tahira
Laiq who also died. She was travelling to
Islamabad to meet one of her daughters.
It was raining heavily with strong winds at
Islamabad when the crash took place. Some
eyewitnesses claim that the plane had been hit by
lightning.
The bodies of Ammad and his mother were identified
and taken to Karachi for burial. |
