Cdre. Afzal joined
the Pakistan Naval Academy in 1980 and got his
commission as an officer in the Pakistan Navy in
1982. He also graduated with a B.Sc. degree from
Karachi University the same year.
He qualified the
Arms of Submarine Course from France in 1990,
Anti-Mine Course from France in 1993, Pakistan
Navy Staff Course at Lahore from 1996 to 1997, and
Turkish Naval Staff Course at Turkey from 1998 to
1999.
Cdre Afzal has
worked on multi-faceted posts in the Pakistan
Navy. Some of his important appointments include
Directing Staff (DS) at Pakistan Navy War College
(PNWC) from 1999 to 2001, Commanding Officer PNS
Haider from 2001 to 2003, Director Personnel
Services at Naval Headquarters Islamabad from 2003
to 2005, Commandant, ISSB Malir from 2005 to 2006,
Drafting Authority from 2006-2007, and Deputy
Director General Maritime Security Agency from
2007 to 2010.
In 1991, Lt.Cdr.
Muhammad Afzal was appointed the twentieth
Adjutant of Cadet College Petaro. He served the
college in this position for less than two years
and was posted back to the Navy in 1992. He was
known as a disciplinarian and a strict adjutant.
Little did he know that he would be called back to
Petaro two decades later as the head of the
college. At the end of 2010, he was given the
appointment as the Principal/Commandant of Cadet
College Petaro. He finally took over the command
on 24 January 2011.
He
