Prof. Moinuddin Ahmed Ansarie
joined the college in 1969 and left the college in 1975.
He was professor of Urdu and Geography.
He was born on 25 January 1925 and was married to Mrs. Shaukat Begum. They have
one son - Dr. Mosavir Ansarie who is now a notable chest physician in Karachi.
Ansarie Sb belongs to a noble and a literary
family of Hyderabad Deccan. He belongs to a family
of Nawabs, who were highly regarded there |

He acquired his early
education up to Matric from the City College in
Hyderabad Deccan.
After completing his
Intermediate, he moved to Aligargh Muslim University
from where he graduated with a B.Sc. degree. He then
returned to Hyderabad Deccan and obtained his M.Sc.
degree from there. He specialized in Geography and Urdu
literature.
He chose his career
in the field of education, and was employed by the
Ministry of Education as an Assistant Director and he
also worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During those years,
he became the editor of two magazines - Sabras and Al-Moosi
in Hyderabad for nearly a decade.
His years prior to
the creation of India were very eventful. He was
actively involved in supporting political activities
that led to the creation of Pakistan. Such activities
included organization of rallies. He had the great
opportunity to be with Bahadur Yar Jung on more than one
occasion.
Upon the creation of
Pakistan, Mr. Ansarie migrated from Hyderabad, and
initially settled down in Abbotabad. He was employed as
a Lecturer at the Govt. College there. In the latter
part of 1950s, he then moved to Khairpur and finally to
Hyderabad Sindh, where he settled down in Latifabad.
During the 1960s, he
was Lecturer at the Nazareth College (a missionary
school) near Tilak Chari in Hyderabad. He was in great
demand, and Col. Coombes
tried to get him to join Petaro. He declined and opted
to remain at Nazareth College.
He used to visit
Petaro as an external invigilator on behalf of the Board
of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
Finally in 1969, he
decided to join Petaro on great insistence of Prof.
S.S. Azim.
During his years at
Petaro, he was also the House
Master of Liaquat House from 1973-1975. He was also the
Patron of the Social Welfare Society from 1970 to 1975.
After leaving Petaro,
Mr. Ansarie joined the Pak American Cultural Centre (PACC)
in Karachi as a teacher of Urdu and English languages.
Two years later - in 1977 - he was appointed the
Administrator of PACC. He remained in that position
until 1989 when he took his retirement from active
employment.
However, he continued
on with his studies and writing.
He wrote and
published 4 books and hundreds of articles on various
subjects - Urdu literature, Islam, politics, social
issues, etc.
I have always had a
very special relationship with Mr. Ansarie. He is
related to me in many different ways and through many different
chains. But the real relationship has been more on an
intellectual plane, and I have always admired him for
what he is and cherished this mutual interchange. His love and affection for me is
incomparable. Unfortunately, we were not contemporaries
at Petaro. He joined just a few months before I left.
He has known me since I was a child.
He was always very
soft spoken, and had the aura of being a highly cultured
man. One would always enjoy his company. He treated
those who were younger than him with great respect and
love. Even his own son always called him "Bhaijan", a
fact that always amazed me.
Mr. Ansarie now leads
a very quiet life in Karachi with his son and his family
amidst his collection of books. He had a fall a couple
of years back due to which he is bed-ridden. May Allah
grant him good health and full recovery.
