Prof. Mirza
Saleem Baig
joined Cadet College Petaro in 1986 as Lecturer of Urdu and left in 1987.
He was born on 16 January 1959, and got married to
Mrs. Tasneem on 4 April 1992. They have
two children - Aslam and Alina.

Born at Hyderabad, Mirza Saleem Baig completed his Matriculation from
Al-Farooq High School in Resham Gali, Hyderabad
in 1977. He then joined the City Arts
College in Hyderabad from where he completed his
Intermdiate in 1979. He then obtained his B.A.
degree from Sindh University in 1984 and M.A. in
Urdu Literature in 1986 from the same university.
Immediately after completing his education from
Sindh University, he joined Cadet
College Petaro as a Lecturer at the Urdu
Department in 1986 and remained in
that position until 1987.
During his stay at Petaro, he was the Assistant House Master of
Ayub House. He was also In Charge of the
Painting &
Calligraphy Club. He also assisted in Urdu
Debating Club and was the Associate Examiner with
Prof. Mukhtar
Siddiqui. At Ayub House, he was also given the
charge to supervise the Wall Paper.
After leaving Petaro in 1987, he joined Sindh
University as a Lecturer. At present he is an Assistant
Professor at the Dept. of Urdu at Sindh
University.
Saleem Sahib is a man of letters. He is the author
of three books. His first book was
Ahwaal-e-Waqi`i, 1994 which summarised the
debates between the famous poets Himayat Ali Shair
and Mohsin Bhopali. His second book was
Kehkashan, 1997 which is an anthology of the
work of 40 poets. His third book was published in
2010 under the title Qazi Khadim kay afsaanay.
This is a translation from Sindhi of some of the
famous short stories written by Qazi Khadim.
He has also published over 300 articles in several
magazines and journals of Pakistan and India,
including Loh-e-Adab (Hyderabad), Sukhan
Zaar
(Karachi), Qirtas (Gujranwala), and Tahqeeq (journal of Sindh
University).
He has been the editor of the quarterly magazine
Na'i Qadren in 1991-1992, and is the
Advisory Board Member of the quarterly journals
Tarikh (Lahore) and Ijra (Karachi).
Saleem Sb is also a known personality on Radio
Pakistan. He has delivered lectures on several
occasions on radio.
When I spoke to him, he expressed a desire to be
able to provide guidance to the students at
Petaro. He pointed out that while Petaro is very
strong on discipline, more emphasis is needed on
academics. He is willing to go to Petaro to
deliver lectures whenever possible.
